CCHL Championship
Grads just one win away from first ever CCHL championship
By Fred Sherwin
April 26, 2024

The Navan Grads are just won win away from their first ever Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL) championship after they beat the Smiths Falls Bears 3-2 on Friday night to take a 3-1 series lead.

Playing in Smiths Falls, the Grads jumped to a 2-0 lead on goals by Shaan Kingwell and Cristobal Tola.

After the Bears cut the deficit in half early in the second period, Sebbie Johnson scored for Grads at the 14:39 mark of the period to re-establish their two-goal lead. The Bears then responded with a power play goal with 2:58 left in the period to once again make it a one gal game. But that would be as far as they would get as the Grads held them at bay and off the score sheet the rest of the way thanks in large to goaltender Jaedon Nelson who earned game MVP honours after making several key stops in the third.

The series now returns to Navan for Game 5 tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. A win would clinch the series and the championship.
