A single vehicle accident at Innes Road and Orchardview Avenue this afternoon has left one person dead and another in the hospital with life threatening injuries.

The accident happened at just after 2 p.m. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene of the accident while the second pedestrian was transported to hospital where they are being treated for life-treatening injuries.

According to reports, three people in the vehicle, including the driver, were taken to hospital for assessment.

It is believed that the compact SUV involved in the accident was traveling southbound on Orchardview Avenue approaching Innes Road when it jumped the cur, crashed through a traffic light pole, separating it from its base, and continued across seven lanes before coming to rest on the opposite curb.

It is not known whether the victims were walking along the sidewalk on Orchardview when they were struck or were crossing Innres. It is also not known at ths time if the light facing the oncoming southbound traffic was red, green or yellow.

Further details will be published once they are released to the public.
