Minor Football:
U12 Panthers end perfect season with A-Cup repeat
By Fred Sherwin
Nov. 4, 2025

The Cumberland Panthers mosquito team won their second straight National Capital Amateur Football Association (NCAFA) U12 city championship on Sunday by beating the North Gloucester Giants 50-19 in the A-Cup final.

Not only was it their second straight championship, it was also their 22nd straight win over the last two seasons proving that they are one of most dominant teams in the entire league. The Panthers U14 peewee team, which also claimed their second straight title on Sunday, has been almost as dominant, compiling a 21-0-1 record over same period.

The mosquito Panthers went into the A-Cup final as the overwhelming favourites. And for good reason. In their 10 previous games heading the championship they had averaged 53 points per game while allowing a grand total of just 44 points.

The Giants were 8-2, allowing almost 14 points per game while scoring an average of 33 points per game.

The Panthers opened the game with an impressive 59 yard drive that began with a
15 yard unnecessary roughing penalty that negated a 43 yard touchdown run by quarterback Nico Scarfone on the second play of the game.

Undaunted, Scarfone responded with runs of 15, 18 and 11 yards to set up a 15-yard touchdown pass to Alexander Lorimer.

After the Giants failed to pick up a first down on the next series, the Panthers took over possesion on North Gloucester's 34-yard line.

After a holding call set them back 10 yards, Scarfone threw a nine yard pass to Kysan Clergé and ran the ball 11 yards to pick up the first down. Two more passes and a 10-yard run by Scarfone would give the Panthers a first down on the Giants one yard line, Scarfone than ran the ball up the middle for his second touchdown of the game.

The score remained 14-0 in favour of the Panthers until midway through the second quarter when Giants running back Sajjid Dia broke away for a 75 yard touchdown run. a two-point covert would narrow the deficit to 14-7. That would be as close as the Giants would get.

After driving the ball to the Giants' seven yard line on the following series, Scarfone was intercepted by Jonathan Likunde. A decision by the Giants to go for it on third and 12 inside their own would prove pivotal as the resulting incomplete pass would give the Panthers a first down on the 15 yard line with less than two minutes to go in the first half. Two plays later Scarfone ran the ball in from the 10 yard line to out Cumberland up 22-7 at the break.

The Panthers then opened the second half with a pick six by Mavrik Poirier on the second play from scrimmage. Anothrer two-point convert by Scarfone extended the Panters lead to 30-7.

The Panthers scored again on a 39 yard run by Scarfone before the end of the third quarter and then twice more in the fourth on a five yard run by Scarfone and six yard pass from Scarfone to Cahhing Mailhout to make the final score 50-19.

Scarfone ended the game with 188 yards on 23 carries and four touchdowns. He also threw the ball 12 times for 83 yards and another touchdown.
