U12 Panthers post impressive win over North Gloucester Giants
By Fred Sherwin
Aug. 25, 2025

The Cumberland Panthers U12 mosquito team improved their record to 2-0 on the weekend after posting an impressive 40-0 win over the North Gloucester Giants on Sunday.

The Panthers quik strike offence opened the game with a 35-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Nico Scarfone to Ruslan Delorme on their first series of game. Two series later, Scarfone carried the ball himself and scampered 64 yards for the Panthers second TD of the game.

After falling behind 14-0, the Giants' defence was able to rally to prevent the Panthers from scoring on their next two posessions. The Giants' offence, meanwhile, was completely stymied by the Panthers' stingy defence. it would be a theme that would continue throughout the rest of the game.

The Panthers offence would eventually break through for their third touchdown of the game on a nine-yard pass from Scarfone to Calvin Paiano in the second quarter to make the score 20-0 heading into halftime.

After the break the Panthers came out firing on all cylinders which resulted in their fourth major of the game on a five-yard pass from Scarfone to Channing Mailhot that was set up by a 25-yard screen pass from Scarfone to Paiano.

Two series later, the Panthers offence took over the ball on the Giants 20-yard line and scored on the second play from scrimmage thanks to a 20-yard run by Kysan Claredge. Scarfone's fourth two-point covert of the game would give the Panthers a 34-0 lead heading into fourth quarter.

Cumberland capped the game with a nine-yard pass from Scarfone to Paiano to make the final score 40-0.

The U14 Panthers took the field next and rolled to a 62-0 win with six different players getting on the score sheet. Running back Evan Nicholls, Davian Bradshaw and Jaylen Clerge had two touchdowns each.

Clerge scored one of his touchdowns after recovering the football on a kickoff and his second TD came on a pass from Jayson Rouleau who scored a touchdown of his own on a quarterback keeper.

Bradshaw's touchdowns were both scored on passes, the first from Rouleau and the second from Rocco Della Vedova.

The Panthers' other touchdowns were scored by running back Precious Okoro and punt returner Novak Drouin while place kicker Noah Rosarian made seven of his eight convert attempts.

Unfortunately, the Panthers U10 tyke team and the U16 bantam team did not have the same success against their North Gloucester opponents as the U12 and U4 teams did.

The U10 squad came out on the short end of a 48-24 score and the bantam team lost 27-13 in the most competitive game of the day.

U10 quarterback Miekel Safarian scored two touchdowns in the Panthers loss to the Giants, while running back Jason Kavanaugh and offensive lineman Noah Ayoub scored one touchdown each.

In the U16 game, Panthers quarterback Kam Sorne scored one touchdown on the ground and threw another to receiver Trenton Murdock, while their defence did its level best to keep Cumberland in the game.

All four teams have a week to get ready before traveling to Cornwall to take on the Cornwall Wildcats on Labour Day Monday.
