Impressive win over east end rivals earns U10 Bengals berth in A-Cup final
By Fred Sherwin

The Orleans Bengals U10 tyke team are heading to the NCAFA A-Cup final after defeating the Cumberland Panthers 42-20 in the semi-finals on Saturday. The game featured some sensational running by Kysan Clergé who scored five touchdowns, all on long runs of 20 yards or more.

Unfortunately, the usually solid Panthers didn't do themselves any favours on either side of the ball. The offence turned the ball over five times, including on each of their last three possessions in the second quarter and their first possession in the third quarter.

The defence also missed a boatload of tackles which contributed to the Bengals' success running the ball. But the biggest difference in the game was Bengals' decision to use some of their top players on both sides of the ball, including Clergé, who normally leads the team on defence, and Zakariya Osman, who played both safety and running back on Saturday and scored a pair of touchdowns as well.

The Panthers tried to counter by using one of their top players, linebacker Carter Tedondo, at running back for several plays and he ended up scoring twice, but it was not enough as the Bengals defence were able to prevent him from doing too much damage. Quaterback Chaning Mailhout scored the Panthers other touchdown.

The Bengals will face the Cornwall Wildcats in the A-Cup final next Sunday, Nov. 3. The Wildcats beat the Kanata Knights 22-14 in Saturday's other semi-final.
