Tim Tierney recently added a new job to his resume. The Beacon Hill-Cyrville councillor was recently acclaimed president of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) at the organization's annual meeting in Edmonton on June 7.
The FCM is a national organization that advocates on behalf of more than 2,000 municipalities in regards ti municipal issues.
In getting appointed president, Tierney becomes the first Ottawa-based city councillor to hold that position in the organization's 84 year history.
“This presents a unique opportunity to strengthen the voice of municipalities and advocate for the issues that matter most to Canadians," said Tierney in accepting the position. "Alongside my fellow table officers and directors, I look forward to continuing our work on behalf of communities from coast to coast to coast. Together, we will tackle infrastructure gaps, build more housing, address homelessness and strengthen Canada’s future."
The fact he comes from a suburban ward in the nation's capital was not lot lost on Terney who was first elected to Ottawa city council in 2010.
“What a tremendous opportunity it is that my home is in Beacon Hill-Cyrville, Ottawa, where my role as president of FCM will not only help support our municipality but also benefit communities across Canada and the territories, with Parliament Hill right here in our backyard," said Terney.
