Thursday's heavy rainfall a godsend for rural residents
By Fred Sherwin
Aug. 29, 2025

While Thursday's heavy rainfall was welcomed by homeowners in Orléans, it was a real godsend for the area's rural residents who have been living under a water advisory for the past several weeks.

According to Environment Canada, the Ottawa region received 34.6 millimetres of rain on Friday. That's almost triple the amount of rainfall the area had received in the previous month. And there might still be more to come as there is a 60 per cent chance of showers today.

The rain should help revitalize the area's lawns which were in desperate need for the moisture. But more importantly it will end the extreme fire hazard warnings that have been in place in the area over the past couple of week's and it will help ease the drought conditions in rural Ottawa, ending the ongoing water advisories.

Although the heavy rain is being welcomed by area farmers and residents on well water, more sustained rain events are needed to bring the situation back to normal. The long range forecast is calling for additional rainfall in the area towards the end of next week.
