St. Peter High School launches virtual Canley Cup food drive

By Fred Sherwin
May 1, 2020

Every year at this time the students and staff at St. Peter High School hold their annual food drive during which they collect tens of thousands of non-perishable food items and thousands of dollars in monetary donations for the Orléans-Cumberland food bank.

Last year they collected over 40,000 items and more than $10,000. The annual event provides enough food to get the food bank through the summer months and into September. As a result of the COVID-19 epidemic, the actual food drive has been replaced by a virtual food drive during which the students and staff at St. Peter high school will be soliciting monetary donations to the food bank.

Members of the public can make a donation at https://www.crcoc.ca/en/donate-occrc.

Local grocery store chains such as Metro Fallingbrook are supporting the virtual drive through the donation of grocery gift cards to the Orléans-Cumberland Community Resource Centre (OCCRC) food bank that will be used to continue to help stock their shelves.

A number of the students have created videos featuring information about the work that the OCCRC does to help encourage support for the campaign and awareness of how the centre is providing services to area residents during these tough times.

Members of the public are also encouraged to spread the word about the food drive through their social networks on Twitter and Instagram #CanleyCupChallenge2020.
