Mother Nature was smiling on this year's Fall Colours Run as more than 650 people took part over various distances from 3K to a full marathon under perfect skies and a light breeze.
The event was kicked off by the annual 1K Wylie Ryan Turkey Trot for children under the over the age of seven. They were followed by kids six and under, many of whom were accompanied by a parent.
Once the kids were off the course the marathon and half marathon got underway, followed by the 10K, 5K and 3K.
The Fall Colours Marathon is notable because it is one of the earliest qualifying events for the 2021 Boston Marathon.
The winner of this year's Marathon was Derek Westra-Luney from Petawawa who was running the 42.2 kilometre
distance for very first time.
A veteran of the Army Run half-marathon, the Canadian Armed Forces member completed the marathon in an impressive 3:12.59, missing the Boston Marathon qualifying time by nearly 13 minutes.
The second place finisher was a very happy Maanav Vashroy from Kanata who was hoping to qualify for Boston in the 40-44 age group, but came up just six
minutes short.
This year's winner of the women's marathon was Mlanie Roy from Saint-Hyacinthe who did run under the Boston Marathon qualifying time in the 35-39 age group for women by nine minutes.
The half marathon was won by Stephan De Wit from Burlington in a time of 1:24.54. Eric Albert from Vars came in fourth and Nicholas Fournier from
Cumberland came in 11th overall and third in the 40-44 age group.
Alex Girard from Ottawa won the 10K and Plantagenet resident Nykela Picard won the 5K. The top female competitor in the 10K was Diana Ghmda from Ottawa, while 15-year-old Adrienne Fraser-Wells was the top female runner in the 5K
followed by fellow 15-year-old Elizabeth Vroom from Orléans.
The 3K was won by another 15-year-old, Ryan Johnstone, while 13-year-old
Blythe Dudley was the top female competitor beating out Saoirse Deroneth, 13, from Orléans by five seconds.
