Orléans native Rachel Homan is returning to the Scotties Tournament of Hearts after defeating Jacqueline Harrison 7-4 earlier today to win the Ontario Scotties championship in Coburg.

Homan and her rink of Emma Miskew, Joanne Courtney, and Lisa Weagle went into the provincial championships determined to avenge their heartbreaking loss to Ottawa skip Jenn Hann in last year's final.

They got off on the right slider by forcing Harrison to score a single in the opening end. After blanking the second end, Homan was forced to settle for a single in the third in a tit for tat start to the game.

Harrison drew to the four foot against three counters in the fourth end to take a temporary 2-1 lead, but it was short-lived thanks to a great raise double-takeout by third Miskew and a missed freeze attempt by Harrison that enabled Homan to score three in the fifth and take a two-point lead.

Harrison would tie the game with a deuce in the sixth end, and then Homan blanked the seventh to set up the pivotal eighth end.

A brilliant control weight, double takeout by Courtney and a takeout by Homan on her last shot that just cleared the guard resulted in another deuce for Team Homan to give themselves a 6-4 lead heading into the ninth end.

Facing two counters Harrison was a tad heavy with her final shot allowing Homan to steal a point and take a 7-4 stranglehold on the game and the Ontario Scotties trophy.

The final blow came on a perfectly executed raise takeout by Homan on her last shot in the 10th that ran Harrison out of rocks.

After the game a jubilant Homan praised her teammates and expressed their pride at being able to represent Ontario at this year's Scotties Tournament of Hearts which will take place in St. Catharines in two weeks time.

"I'm so proud of my team. We battled hard out there. We had to fight to get our points and we're so excited to represent Ontario again and to be back in those (Team Ontario) jackets. It's an amazing feeling," said Homan who will be heading back to the Scotties national championships for the third time since 2011.

After her last provincial win in 2013, Homan went on to win the Scotties and represent Canada in the World Championships where she won bronze.

As the defending Scotties champions, the Homan rink was given a bye into the national championships in 2014 where they defended their title and went on to win a silver medal at worlds.

They went for the Scotties three-peat in 2015, but lost to Stefanie Lawton from Saskatchewan in an extra end in the 3-4 page playoff game. They would get their revenge, however, by beating Lawton to win the bronze medal.

The 2017 Scotties Tournament of Hearts gets underway on Feb. 18.
