East end teams capture 11 House League divisional championships

Eleven House League teams from the east end capped their season by winning a Gloucester Hockey Association (GHA) District 9 division championship on the weekend.

The GHA includes seven local hockey associations including the Cumberland Minor Hockey Association, the Glocester Centre Minor Hockey Association, the Orleans Minor Hockey Association, the Blackburn Minor Hockey Association, the Leitrim Minor Hockey Association, the Metcalfe Minor Hockey Association, and the Russell Minor Hockey Association.

The Cumberland Minor Hockey Association led the way winning six championship banners in the Atom B2, Peewee B2, Peewee A, Bantam B2, Midget B2 and Midget B1 divisions, six other CMHA teams skated off the ice with silver medals having made it to the finals.

The Gloucester Centre Cougars had five teams in the finals and two emerged victorious. The Novice A team beat the Blackburn Stingers 4-0 on a pair goals by Hunter Nowana, and singles from Kalai Uutuval and Izsak Hill, and the Atom C team beat the Leitrim Hawks 2-1 in double overtime on a pair of goals by Noah Mikovich.

The Orleans Minor Hockey Association also won a pair of championship banners. The first came in the Peewee C final which saw the Orleans Rush jump out to a 3-0 first period lead on goals by Ryan Godin (2) and Vincent Roy before hanging on for a 3-2 win.

The OMHA's second title came in the Peewee B1 divusion where Orleans beat Leitrim 2-1 on Jacob Bowles overtime winner.

The Blackburn Stingers Bantam A team avenged their Atom B2 clubmates 5-3 loss to the Cumberland Dukes earlier in the day by dominating the Gloucester Centre Cougars 3-0 on goals by Bradley Lemieux, Joey Beaulne and James Wilson. Justin Boulianne earned the shutout in net for the Stingers.

 

 

After losing the Atom A and B1 division finals to a pair of Leitrim teams, Cumberland won its second championship banner in the Peewee B2 division when the Dukes B5 team defeated the Metcalf Jets B3 squad 5-1 on goals by William Loyer, Patrick Schwilden, Alex Chambers and Ryan Bani, who had a pair.

Cumberland's next two championships came in the Peewee A and Bantam B2 divisions. The Dukes' Peewee A1 team beat theur A3 clubmates 2-0 on a pair of third period goals by Nicolas Lefebvre and Gage Worrell, in the first all Cumberland final of the weekend, and the B1 team downed the Leitrim B4 squad 3-2 in double overtime to capture the Bantam B2 championship.

Raphael Caron opened the scoring for the bantam Dukes on a pass from Isaak Landry late in the opening period, and then he returned the favour, setting up a goal by Landry to give the Dukes a 2-1 lead in the second. Leitrim eventually tied the game midway through the third to set up the double overtime winner by Andre McGregor.

Cumberland's final two banners came in the Midget B1 and B2 divisions. In the B1 final, the Dukes B4 team beat the B10 team 4-1, and in the B2 final the B6 team upset their B1 clubmates 4-3.
