Devils win six gold, two silver at GCRA tournament

36th annual GCRA ringette tournament wrapped up on Sunday with the host Devils
winning six gold medals and two silver after quaifying for eight finals. The
medal haul was a vast improvement from a year ago when the Devils were 1-5 in
championship action. The
gold rush was lead by the GCRA`s U16 Junior A team which beat Chutes-Chairdiere
5-4 on a last second goal by Breanna Joynson who also had two assists in the contest.
The other goal scorers were Hannah Farquhar with two, Kate McLeod and Isabelle
Séguin. The
Devils two Junior B teams also won gold. GCRA B2-1 came out on top in the Gold
Division with a 3-1 win over Ville Saint-Laurent, and GCRA B2-2 won gold in the
Green Division with an 8-7 overtime win over GCRA B2-3.. Myma
Okuda-Rayfuse scored the winning goal at the 9:21 mark of the extra session while
teammates Samantha Mongeon, Caitlin Killeen and Josee Joly each scored two goals.
Makayla Poutanen and Laura Pietrobon had three goals each in a losing cause for
GCRA B2-2. The
Devils U14 Tween B team downed Pointe-Claire 5-1 to claim gold thanks to a three
goal effort by Samantha Moffat and pair of goals by Marie-Pier Dessureault. The
U12 Petite team won the Devils fifth gold medal of the tournament with a 3-0 win
over Whitby. Pascale Gascon picked up the shutout in net for the Devils who got
goals from Meghan Young and Anick Lafontaine.with a pair. Last
but by no means least, the U10 Novice B team overwhelmed the Ottawa Ice 8-3 to
win the Devils sixth gold medal. The
Devils second silver medal was awarded to the U19 Belle B1 squad which edged out
St. Albert by a goal to earn a spot in the final where they lost 4-0 to Nepean. (This
