The Cumberland Grads downed the hapless Hawkesbury Hawks 9-0 on Sunday to chalk up their third win since the holiday break.

It took the Grads the better part of the first period to get going against the last place Hawks, but when once they got on track the goals came fast and furious..

Mathieu Ouellette broke the 0-0 tie midway through the period when he buried his own rebound past the outstretched trapper of Hawks' starting goalie Philippe Magnan.

Daniel Goyette would put the Grads up 2-0 with 5:18 left in the period on a well-placed shot from the right face-off circle that beat Magnan high glove side.

Matt Miller scored a nearly identical goal from the exact same spot on the ice while on the power play with 1:17 left in the period to give his team a three goal lead heading into the first intermission.

The Grads then blew the game wide open early in the second period when Brent Bisdee scored twice in the opening two minutes and 10 seconds. The first was scored on a two on one break that was set up by an excellent lead pass from Michael Nooyen to Mitch Gallant.

Gallant took the initial shot and the rebound landed right on Bisdee's stick who was trailing on the play and had a wide open net in which to score.

Bisdee's second goal was scored off a scramble at the side of the net.

The Grads extended their lead to 6-0 at the 6:07 mark of the second period on a shot from the slot that beat Magnan high glove side.

After Magnan was pulled for Dylan Brind'Amour, the Hawks seemed to have a better jump in their skates. They looked especially sharp when the Grads Kevin Lough was sent off for holding at the 8:36 mark of the period, but Adam Mohr came up with his best two saves of the game, robbing Julien Quincou with an outstanding pad save and Yanik Laliberte with his trapper.

Fabien Walsh would put the Grads up 7-0 with six minutes left in the period on a deflection off a shot from Nooyen.

Walsh returned the favour early in the third period when he won a faceoff deep in the Hawks end and drew it back to Nooyen who fired a blistering point shot that caught the top left corner.

Stephen Farrell's first goal as a Cumberland Grad with 5:32 left in the game would make the final score 9-0 in favour of the home team which improved their record to 24-17-2-1.

The Grads have a busy week ahead of them with three games in four days including a date with the red hot Brockville Braves in the Seaway City on Friday. Their next home game is on Sunday, Jan 18 at 3 p.m. against the Ottawa Jr. Senators.
