The Cumberland
Grads extended their current winning streak to five games on Tuesday, and
took over first place in their division in the process, thanks to a 5-3
win over the Brockville Braves.
The Grads got
two goals each from Greg Sartoretto and Mitch Gallant, who now has six goals
in his last three games, while Kale Wild added another.
Adam
Laderoute picked up the win in net for Cumberland, who improved their record
to 6-2-0, good enough for 12 points and sole possession of first place in
the newly aligned Yzerman Division.
Sartoretto opened
the scoring with a power play goal at the 12:47 mark of the first period.
Brockville then tied the game with 12:09 to go in the period on a goal by
Shayne Thoimpson.
Wild's even strength
goal midway through the period on a pass from Gallant and Mathieu Ouellette
and Gallant's power play marker from Wild and Michael Borkowski would give
the Grads for good.
Brockville narrowed
the lead to 3-2 at the 13:18 mark of the third, but Sartoretto's second
of the game three minutes later from Borkowski would give Cumberland all
the insurance they needed.
Shayne Stockton's
goal with the goalie pulled would make things interesting for the last 29
seconds until Gallant's empty netter with two seconds left sealed the deal
for Cumberland who now must face Kanata in a rematch of their Sunday matinee
game which the Grads won 4-2.
The Grads next
home game is this coming Sunday at 3 p.m. against the Cornwall Colts.
