Bédard has off
outing against White Sox, gets no decision
native Erik Bédard's worst outing of the young season wasn't all that bad
as he allowed three runs in five innings against the Chicago White Sox on
six hits and three walks. File photo
solid outings in which Erik Bédard picked uo two wins against one loss,
the Navan hurled had an off outing by his own standard on Wednesday giving
up three earned runs on six hits and three walks in five innings as the
Seattle Mariners lost 6-3 to the Chicago White Sox.
In his defence,
the Mariners were leading 3-1 when he left the game in the bottom of the
sixth inning after giving up a pair of back-to-back singles, but both runners
would end up crossing the plate as the man who was sent to the mound to
relieve him gave up an RBI double and a sacrifice fly which allowed the
White Sox to tie the game. They would get two more in the seventh and one
in the eighth for their six run total.
The fact that
he gave up five hits was not as uncharacteristic as the fact that he allowed
three walks and only struck out three batters. Heading into the game, he
had allowed just three walks in 26 innings.
On the good side
he only gave three hits in his first five innings of work, although one
of the hits was homerun -- only the second one he's given up all season.
He did struggle with his control, however, throwing just 54 strikes on 91
pitches, for 59 per cent.
