teams win five banners during GHA championship weekend

Cumberland Minor Hockey Association won five banners during the Gloucester Hockey
Associations annual House League championships last weekend, which was tops
among the five minor hockey leagues that make up the GHA.
Blackburn Minor Hockey Association won four championship banners while the Gloucester
Centre Minor Hockey Association and the Orleans Minor Hockey Association each
won one banner.
CMHA won its banners at the Novice A, Novice B2, Peewee B1, Bantam B2 and Juvenile
levels, while the BMHA took home the Novice B1, Atom B1, Bantam A and Bantam B1
banners. Gloucester Centre won the Peewee B2 banner and Orleans won the Midget
CMHA had eight teams in total in the finals, which was tops among the various
leagues. Blackburn had five teams competing for a banner, and Gloucester Centre
and Orleans had three teams each in the finals.
the most exciting game of the weekend was the Novice A final between the Cumberland
Bulldogs and the Leitrim Hawks on Saturday which had to be decided in double overtime.
Hawks were leading 2-0 heading at the second intermission when the Bulldogs exploded
for three goals in the first minute and seven seconds of the third to take a 3-2
lead. Cayden Martin scored the first two goals just 18 seconds apart and Aiden
Koggel popped in the go ahead marker 19 seconds later.
taking a minute to regroup, the Hawks tied the score at the 8:56 mark of the third
period on a goal from Arthur Hamlin. The score stood up through the remainder
neither team scored in the first overtime period, the game went into a second
extra session. It wasnt until the 8:56 mark of the second overtime period
that the Bulldogs finally managed to get the winning goal on a shot from Cedric
Roth with Martin drawing the only assist on the play.
the Novice B1 final between the Blackburn Stingers and the Gloucester Centre Cougars,
Tristan Tejero scored a pair of goals for the Stingers, including the eventual
game winner at the 3:07 mark of the third period. Lukas Matthews also scored for
Blackburn who won the game 3-2, while Benjamin Vasudev and William Cox scored
the only final featuring two teams from the Cumberland Minor Hockey Association,
the Cumberland Rockets beat the Cumberland Growlers 4-0 in the Novice B2 championship.
breaking up a scoreless tie with a goal from Marc-Andre Samure in the second period,
the Rockets exploded for three unanswered goals in the third by Noah Turner, Samure
and Eric Chamber to register the win.
Yazdari was the man of the hour in the Stingers 5-4 win over the Leitrim Hawks
in the Atom B1 final on Saturday. He scored four goals including the game winner
with 2:25 left in the game to lead his team claim to the GHA championship.
Stingers werent so fortunate, however in the Atom A championship, where
they ran up against a Metcalfe Jets team that was on a roll after finishing in
first place during the regular season. Kyle Charette and Tommy Spiliopoulos scored
the lone goals for Blackburn in a 6-2 loss.
other match-ups involving teams from the far east end on Saturday, the Orleans
Thunderbirds got a goal from Matthew Oake in a 2-1 loss to the Russell Warriors
in the Atom C final; the Gloucester Centre Cougars lost 2-1 to the Warriors in
the Novice C championship with their lone goal coming off the stick of Joshua
Rose; the Cumberland Bombers got a goal from Jordan Lake in 2-1 loss to the Metcalfe
Jets in the Atom B2 final; and the Gloucester Centre Cougars got shutout 5-0 by
the Russell Warriors in the Peewee C championship game.
Centre won their lone championship of the weekend by way of a 4-1 win over the
Cumberland Vipers in the Peewee B2 final in which Corey Rankin had two goals and
an assist. Wolfgang Budarik and Simon Lewis also scored for Gloucester Centre
which finished fifth in the regular season standings, two spots back of the Vipers
whose only goal in the final came from Jacob Shymanski.
Cumberland Panthers won the Peewee B1 championship with a 4-3 win over the Leitrim
Hawks. Nicholas Anderson had two goals for the Panthers, including the eventual
game winner at the 2:13 mark of the third period, while Matthew Killeen and Tristan
Lafleche each scored earlier in the game to keep the score close.
Cumberland Lightning did their best to follow the Panthers lead in the Peewee
A final, but they suffered a third period collapse that completely wiped out a
the Bantam B2 final, Cumberland B7 downed Cumberland B1 3-2. The B7 squad was
trailing 2-1 in the third period when Cameron Macibonka scored to tie the game.
Alexander Lemays second goal of the contest with 4:50 left on the clock
would prove to be the game winner. Pascal Bourgon and Gabriel Miron both scored
for the Cumberland B1 team.
other action, the Blackburn Stingers B1 team downed the Stingers B2 squad 3-0
in the Bantam B1 final on goals from Brady Irvine, Jeremy Dupas and Anthony Oliviera;
the Stingers A1 bantam downed the Leitrim Hawks 4-1 in the Bantam A championship,
on goals from Ryan Bruinessen, Alexandre Geduld-Boucher and Sophie Curtis; and
last but certainly not least the Orleans Spitfires won the Orleans Minor Hockey
Associations lone banner with a 6-4 win over the Leitrim Hawks in the Midget
B2 final thanks to a pair of goals by Mark Johnston and singles from Cameron Bonsall,
Kyle McCready, Sean Robertson and Matthieu Dufaut.
