Rangers keep playoff hopes alive with huge win over Cornwall
By Fred Sherwin
Gloucester Rangers season will come down to one game against the Kanata Stallions
on Tuesday night after they demolished the Cornwall Colts on Sunday to keep their
playoff hopes alive.
Rangers spotted the Colts a 2-0 first period lead before exploding for seven unanswered
goals in the second to take a five goal lead. They scored two more early in the
third to go up 9-2, before giving up a pair of late goals for a 9-4 final
the two points they picked up for the win, the Rangers are now masters of their
own destiny. They are currently one point up on the Kanata Stallions, who they
play on Tuesday night, and a point back of the Colts who they need to catch in
order to avoid a first round match-up against the Pembroke Lumber Kings.
win or tie against the Stallions would assure them of at least eighth place. Should
they win and Cornwall ends up losing to the Ottawa Jr. Senators on Thursday, the
Rangers would leapfrog past the Colts into seventh place.
they lose to the Stallions, the Rangers could still make the playoffs with a win
over the Brockville Braves who they play in the final regular season game for
both teams on Friday night. A loss to both the Stallions and the Braves would
leave them on the outside looking in.
Sunday's win over the Colts, the Rangers were paced by Andrew Creppin, Brandon
Edge and Nick Vidoni who had two goals apiece. Corey Durocher, Corey Frizell and
Taylor York also scored for the Rangers who had their second most productive game
of the season. They scored 12 against Kanata on Nov. 16 and eight against Hawkesbury
on Feb. 13.
