Junior 'C' Hockey
Cumberland Bandits earn top spot in EOJCHL West Division standings

The Cumberland Bandits will be going into the Eastern Ontario Junior C Hockey League playoffs as one of the co-favourites after capturing the West Division championship in only their first year.

The Bandits finished the regular season with a record of 21-9-4 and will face l'Express de La Pêche in the first round of the playoffs which get under way tonight at the Ray Friel Centre.

The Bandits are led by Andrew Newell who was named as the West Division's Most Valuable Player at the EOJCHL banquet on Thursday night. The former Cumberland Baron had 31 goals and 30 assists in 32 games.

Bandits head coach Rick Julien was also named Coach of the Year and owner Claude Pothier was named the league's Executive of the Year.
