25-year-old male killed in head-on collision with OC Transpo bus

A head-on collision between an OC Transpo bus and a single vehicle car at Tenth Line Road and Southfield Way in Avalon has left a 25-year-old driver of the car dead and the driver of the bus shaken but not seriously injured.

The accident occurred shortly before 11:30 p.m. Thursday night. The collision happened with such force that it nealy disintegrated the Saturn Astra hatchback and left the victim trapped in the car.

Emergency crews managed to extricate the victim from the wreckage, but not before he succumbed to his injuries.

The 58-year-old female driver of the OC Transpo bus also had to be physically extricated due to the damage incurred to the bus, but she managed to escape any serious injuries,

Investigators remained at the scene into the early morning hours. It is not known when the intersection will be reopened to traffic.
