Xmas program brings holiday cheer to those who need it most

Special to Orléans Online

The holiday season is fast approaching and during this time of year, the folks at the Orléans-Cumberland Community Resource Centre (OCCRC) are looking for support in their efforts to help families and individuals living in our community.

For more than 28 years, the OCCRCs Christmas Program has assisted hundreds of individuals and families annually by providing them with groceries and gifts for the Christmas season. This year is no differnet as the Resource Centre is seeking the support of residents in the community.

Many community events will also take place in and around Orléans during this holiday season to support the OCCRCs efforts to meet the needs of our community. There are different ways that you can lend your support either as an individual or through your business, organization, or school. You can get involved by sponsoring a family, hosting an angel tree, or donating food, funds, unwrapped toys or gift cards. For the toys, we ask that all donations be dropped off at our Centre by December 12th at noon.

Other ways to be part of the Christmas season's festivities is by attending events organized by local groups in support of the OCCRC. Starting with the annual food drive by the Ottawa Firefighters on December 3rd, a Christmas benefit concert at MIFO on December 11th, and another Christmas benefit concert put on by School of Rock, also on December 11th.

If you wish to make a food donation you can do so at the following locations in your neighbourhood: BMO Bank of Montreal Place d'Orléans; Alterna Savings on Centrum Blvd.; the Winner HomeSense store on Innes Rd.; Village Bruyère on Hiawatha Park Road, and Bellefleur Physiotherapy on St. Joseph Blvd.

Should you choose to be involved and to share the spirit of the holidays, please contact Cindy MacKay at 613-830-4357 ext. 305 or write to cmackay@crcoc.ca. You can also visit our website at www.crcoc.ca on the Get Involved page. You will find all the details regarding various events, and the forms to sponsor a family or to donate funds.

We would greatly appreciate your interest in making it possible for all residents of our community to enjoy a truly joyous holiday season. On behalf of the OCCRC staff, volunteers, and especially the community, thank you and we wish you a great Holiday Season.

(This story was made possible thanks to the generous support of our local business partners.)
