An Orléans physician faces possible disciplinary action over allegations that he sexually abused a female patient while working at the Centrepointe Family Health Centre between January and March 2014.

Dr. Atef Malak Shehala Ghali, who lists his primary practice at 4473 Innes Rd., will face the charges against him at a disciplinary hearing organized by the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons on May 24.

According to the disposition filed against him, Dr. Ghali is alleged to have made comments of "a sexual nature, kissing and pressing himself against the patient and inserting his fingers in her vagina."

Should Dr. Ghali be found guilty of the charges, he faces sanctions ranging from a fine to a suspension of his license and possible revocation, meaning he would no longer be able to practice medicine.

Dr. Ghali has been operating under a number of restrictions imposed by the College of Phyisicians and Surgeons including not being able to have contact with female patients except in the presence of a female health care professional and he must post signage to that affect in his waiting room and examination rooms.

Dr. Ghali received a license to practice family medicine in July 2012.
