It's a miracle that's been three years in the making. On Saturday, the Miracle League of Ottawa kicked off its inaugural season in Orléns bringing smiles to the faces of dozens of physically challenged children.

The Miracle League enables children who are restricted to their wheelchairs, an opportunity to play organized baseball on a specially designed, fully accessible field in Notre-Dame-des-Champs.

The field is equipped with a synthetic surface that makes it easier for wheelchairs to navigate around the bases.

Front and centre during Saturday's season opener was 13-year-old Bryce Desrochers, the young man who was the main inspiration behind the project, along with his parents Rollie and Michelle Desrochers.

“It’s really awesome because I’m the inspiration and I’m here playing with all my friends,” said Bryce grinning from ear to ear as the crack of a bat could be heard in the background.

The Miracle League of Ottawa is open to special needs children, young adults and adults who want to experience the joy of playing baseball in a facilty that is designed and equipped especially for them. To find out more visit miracleleagueofottawa.ca.
