Ian Bush has been ordered to stand trial for the 2007 slayings of a retired federal court judge, his wife, and a neighbour. Mike Carroccetto / Ottawa Citizen

Former Orléans resident Ian Bush will stand trial for the 2007 slayings of retired Ottawa federal tax court judge Alban Garon, his wife Raymonde, and their neighbour Marie-Claire Beniskos.

The decision was handed down by a judge on Thursday following three days of preliminary hearings during which the Crown laid out their case against Bush.

A publication ban prevents media organizations from publishing any of the evidence presented during the hearing.

The Garons and Beniskos were found gagged and beaten to death in the Garrons' Riverside Drive apartment on June 30, 2007.

The case remained unsolved until the home invasion and attempted murder of 101-year-old Second World War vet Ernest Côté in December 2014. Evidence in that case led investigators to Bush, who is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, in connection withe that crime.

DNA evidence collected at the 2007 crime scene matched that of Bush, which resulted in Bush being charged with three counts of first degree murder.

The triple homicide trial will have to wait until after his trial on the 2014 charges which is scheduled to begin next month.
