Two men have been charged with second degree murder in connection the stabbing death of 17-year-old Issaiah Clashar outside a Jasmine Crescent apartment building early Sunday morning.

Paramedics were called to the 2000 block of Jasmine Crescent at around 12:15 a.m. Sunday morning. When they arrived they found three men suffering from various stab wounds.

Clashar was the most seriously injured and was rushed to CHEO with multiple life-threatening stab wounds where he was pronounced dead. The other two men were treated at the General Campus of Ottawa Hospital where they were questioned by police investigators.

The two suspects fled the scene on foot, but were apprehended a short while later near Hwy. 174 and Blair Road. The pair have been identified as Keanu Croteau, 18, and Mohamad Hamade, 25.

The two men appeared in court Monday morning were each formally charged with one count of second degree murder and one count of attempted murder in connection with one of the other victims.

According to the police, all five men were acquainted. What isn't yet clear is why all five men were together when the stabbing occurred, which would yield a possible. A resident who heard the men quarreling from her nearby balcony says she heard one of the men yell, "I can give you a cheque," which would suggest the confrontation was over a debt.

The details of the case will no doubt come out during the trial.

For now, a family has been robbed of a young man who had his whole life in front of him and the residents of Jasmine Crescent are left to reflect on the second murder in their neighbourhood in less than six months.

Eighteen-year-old Connor Stevenson was stabbed to death in April. David Dubois, 19, is facing a second degree murder charge in connection with that incident.
