East Village duplex fire leaves eight homeless

A house fire in the Cardinal Creek sub-division of East Village has left two families homeless after completely destroying their duplex on Glandriel Crescent early Tuesday evening.

Firefighters were called to 2331 Glandriel Cres. shortly before 7 p.m. When the first responders arrived, the fire was already spreading to the rest of the house from the garage and roof area.

It took nearly two hours to wrestle the blaze under control. Damage is estimated at more than $800,000, not including an SUV that was parked in the driveway.

No one was injured in the fire, however, the two families who lived in the duplex, comprising of eight people, have been left to make alternate living arrangements with family and friends.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
