70-year-old man charged with murder after stabbing son to death

A 70-year-old man has been charged with second degree murder after stabbing his 51-year-old son to death in their Notre Dame Street apartment on Tuesday.

John Frank McRae was arraigned on Wednesday, a day after he stabbed his son Michael during an apparent argument.

Emergency services were called to a low-rise apartment building at 6632 Notre Dame St. at about 6:45 p.m. where they found the victim suffering from multiple stab wounds. The younger McRae was rushed to hospital, but later succumbed to his wounds.

According to residents of the buiding, the two men often argued and threatened each other with physical violence.

On Tuesday, the violence went beyond mere threats to the point where a man is dead and his 70-year-old father will likely spend the better part of the rest of his life in prison.
