This Orléans Lions Club hosted its annual Effective Speaking Competition at École secondaire Béatrice-Desloges last weekend with participants from Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec.

The contest was held in both English and French at junior, middle and senior levels with two local students taking home first place honours in the junior and intermediate French competitions.

Abigael Carpentier from Beatrice-Desloges won the intermediate award and Jemima Nsenga, also from Beatrice-Desloges won the junior award.

The Lions Effective Speaking program has been in place for over 60 years. Its aim is to give students the opportunity to hone their communication skills in preparation for leadership roles in the careers of their choice.
