Local financial planner recognized for advocating on behalf of seniors

Orléans financial planner Janet Gray has made working on behalf of retirees and seniors one of her life's passions.

In 2009, she established the Ottawa chapter of the Canadian Association of Retired Persons, or CARP, which advocates on behalf of Canada's aging population on a variety of issues including pension reform, affordable and accessible health care, and the prevention of elder abouse.

Under Gray's leadership, CARP Ottawa has actively and effectively engaged with other stakeholder groups in helping to develop a more age-friendly city. Last year their AGM and mini-Expo attracted over 400 members.

In 2011, Gray joined the steering committee for Age Friendly Ottawa, which links the City of Ottawa with the Council on Aging Ottawa.

For her efforts, CARP Canada recently designated Gray as their member of the month and she was given special recognition by Ottawa-Orleans MPP Marie-France Lalonde on International Women's Day.

When she's not advocating on behalf of seniors and retirees, Gray is providing professional financial advice as a member of Money Coaches Canada.
