than 8,000 visitors were captivated by the lights, trains
and "magical" buttons on display at the 15th
annual Magical Village presented by the Gloucester North
Lions Club during the holiday season.
it was first created in 1988 by former Gloucester mayor
Claudette Cain, the Magical Village has raised more than
$200,000 for various individuals and organizations. And
2013 continued the fine tradition.
100 duplicate and unused pieces were completely sold out
within the first four days with proceeds added to the
donation box. In addition, donations from visitors and
local businesses helped the Magical Village raise more
than $14,000 to be shared among the Gloucester Emergency
Food Cupboard, Ronald McDonald House and Lions Camp Dorset.
Gloucester North Lions Club appreciates the generosity
of visitors and were moved by comments in the guest book.
"Glad to see it is still going after all these years".
"Awesome". Impressive". "We come to
the mall just for this every year".
came from Orleans, Ottawa, Hammond, Hawkesbury, Kemptville
and from Renfrew, Hamilton, Vancouver, Prague, PEI, NB,
New Jersey and Baghdad to name a few.
Gloucester North Lions could not have undertaken the project
alone. We want to thank the many volunteers who came to
our aid from our sister clubs across the region, individuals
who just asked to help out and students from local area
high schools who worked as greeters, earning hours towards
their Community Service requirement.
big thank you also goes out to the 30 businesses and individuals
who helped support the Magical Village through monetary
or in-kind donations or by advertizing at the Village.
contributions helped keep costs down and allowed more
donations to go directly to the organizations in need.
Special thanks to our Platinum sponsers, Place d'Orleans
Shopping Centre for providing the space free of charge
and Fred Guy Moving and Storage who waived storage fees
for the next year. Our heartfelt thanks to them and all
who supported the Magical Village in 2013.
