An Orléans school-based daycare is promisng clients they will keep a better eye on their kids after five of their charges decided to wander off the school property to go to one of their houses.

The five children, aged three to four, were apparently taking part in a supervised play period at the Reine-des-Bois day care in Queenswood Heights when they wandered off into a nearby wooded area. A short while later they arrived at one of their homes where a grandparent was living and returned to the school.

The incident has caused the parents of at least one of the chldren to temporarily keep ther son at home.

“This is a parent’s worst nightmare,” an emotional Julie Proulx told CTV Ottawa. “If my husband had got there 5 or 10 minutes earlier, he would have been greeted by someone saying 'sorry, we don’t know where your son is or he's not here.' Are you kidding me? That's unacceptable.”

The daycare director Francine Beaudoin, says staff are taking the incident very seriously.

“An internal investigation is in progress to determine how this incident could have happened and to put in motion additional security measures so that a similar incident won’t occur again,” says Beaudoin.
