The 30-year-old man who was killed in a fatal hit-and-run near Navan early Sunday morning has been identified as Michael Morlang.

Morlang was walking home along Frank Kenny Road between 5 a.m.and 5:30 a.m. when he was struck by an unidentified vehicle and killed. A temporary cross fashioned from a pair 2x4s was erected on Monday near the spot where Morlang was killed. A small bouquet of flowers was left at its base.

Police say a passing motorist saw Morlang walking along Frank Kenny just after 5 a.m. After dropping off her children at a nearby friend's house, the motorist was driving back down Frank Kenny about a half hour later when she saw his body lying in the middle of the road.

Police are hoping the driver of the car that hit Morlang will turn themself in. On Monday his girlfriend made a plea for the person reponsible to come forward.

"We have a lot of pain. We are sad. We don't know what happened," said a devastated Isabelle Tardif. "The only person who knows is the person who (did the) hit-and-run. Please call."

Morlang recently started a new job at O-Town Steel Erectors Inc. in Ottawa where he was a structural steel worker. He lived on Frank Kenny Road with two roommates.

Morlang attended a bachelor party Saturday nigh twith friends. They were reportedly trying to find another friend's house early Sunday morning when he decided to walk home alone.
