City announces upcoming Queensway closures

The City of Ottawa has released a schedule of upcoming closures on the eastern section of the Queensway for later this month and next.

Starting this Monday there will be further overnight lane closures on the eastbound and westbound Queensway between St. Laurent Blvd. and the Vanier Parkway.

Queensway westbound ramp closures

Queensway on and off ramps will be completely closed for night work in the westbound direction between St. Laurent Blvd. exit and the Vanier Parkway for the installation of moveable safety barriers.

The St. Laurent off-ramp will be closed on Monday and Tuesday from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. The St. Laurent northwest and southwest on-ramps will be closed on Tuesday June 25 from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m.

The Vanier Parkway off-ramp will be closed on Sunrday, June 30and Thursday June 27 from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m.

The Vanier Parkway on-ramp will be closed on Thursday, July 11and Friday, July 4 from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m.

Beginning the week of July 8, the westbound Vanier Parkway on-ra`mp will be closed for four weeks for construction related activity.

Queensway eastbound and westbound lane reductions

Two westbound lanes will be closed intermittently during the night near the 417/174 Split to the Vanier Parkway for construction activity. This work will take place between 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. from Wednesday, June 26to Wednesday, Oct. 18.

The left lane in the eastbound direction from Lees Ave. to the Vanier Parkway will be closed during the night for construction activity. This work will take place between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. from Wednesday, June 26to Wednesday, Oct. 18. Two lanes will be closed from Lees Avenue to Belfast Road on Sunrday, June 30from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Two westbound lanes from St. Laurent Blvd. to the Vanier Parkway will be closed during the night for construction activity between 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Thursday, July 11and Wednesday, Oct. 18.

Signage will be in place to advise commuters of traffic and road changes and motorists are reminded to use caution when travelling through construction zones. Many of these construction elements are weather dependant and may be implemented later than the dates given.

This work is being done as part of the Hwy 417 expansion project, which began in May, and will add an additional lane in each direction, between Nicholas St. nd the Split. This additional lane will be used for rapid transit during the period of construction of the Confederation Line from 2015 to 2018.
