Public board elementary teachers to hold one-day strike on Dec. 12

Teachers at area elementary school will join their colleagues from across the province in walking off the job for a one day strike on Thursday, March 30 .

The Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario has advised the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board that a one-day walk-out will take place across the district.

All elementary schools will be closed to students, leaving parents to find alternate care for their children.

There will be no elementary school bus service on Wednesday, however, secondary schools will be open as usual and secondary students are expected to attend school. School bus transportation for secondary students will continue as usual; delays are possible.

All extended day programs (before and after school) will also be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 19for one day. Community use permits issued for elementary schools after 6 p.m. will continue as per usual.

The decision to walk off the job for one day follows closely on the heels of a statement issued by Ontario Education Minister Laurel Broten on Wednesday in which she said the province would not stand in the way of one-day strikes as long as 48 hours notice is given.
