The City of Ottawa and the Cardinal Creek Community Assocaition couldn't have picked a better day to open a spray park and splash pad in the east end communtiy of Springridge.

The splash pad is the latest instalation in Park 18B located at the south end of Springridge behind Bergamot Circle. The city installed several play structures in the park last year. Future plans call for the four hectare park call for a basketball court and two mini-soccer fields..

The splash pad was welcomed by a gaggle of local kids who were anxious to cool off from the soaring temperature.

Orleans Coun. Bob Monette and Glengarry-Prescott-Russell MPP Grant Crack were on hand to help cut the ribbon along with Cardinal Creek Community Association president Sean Crossan and fellow CCCA executive members Tristan Blais and Martin d'Anjou.

"This is a great day for the kids of Cardinal Creek as they can now cool off and enjoy the hot days of summer," said Crossan.

Coun. Monette and MPP Crack were happy to be on hand to help celebrate the opening of the latest edition to the east end sub-division.

"The children of Cardinal Creek will enjoy this splash pad facility for years to come. It is a pleasure to be here with this vibrant community to open this new facility," said Monette and Crack in a joint statement.

Crossan also used the occasion to announce a contest to name the park. Cardinal Creek residents can send their suggestions to president@cardinalcreek.org. The suggestions will be submitted to the naming committee and the best name will be announced in September 2012.
