The Ottawa Catholic School Board is mourning the loss of Beacon Hill, Cyrville/Innes trustee Katalin Sheskay after she suddenly passed away last Thursday. She was 61.

Sheskay was elected to the board in 2006 to represent the area of Beacon Hill, Cyrville/Innes after a lengthy career in public service that included stints with Habitat for Humanity, the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation, the Beechwood Cemetery Foundation and the Waupoos Foundation.

She was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002, the United Way Community Builder Award in 2005 and the Women of Distinction Award from the YMCA/YWCA in 2006.

She is survived by her husband Glen, son Glenn, daughter-in-law Heather and grandchildren Evan and Brendan.

Visitation will take place in the Sacred Space of the Beechwood Cemetery National Memorial Centre 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa, on Friday, May 25 from 1 p.m. until the Memorial Service at 2 p.m. A reception will follow from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
