Outdoor enthusiasts in the east end will be happy to find out that they now have online access to a detailed set of maps showing Orléans' extensive network of walking trails.

Although the official launch of OrleansTrails.ca won't be held until May 27 residents can get a sneak peak by visiting apps.facebook.com/OrleansTrails.

The Facebook page has a drop down menu with maps for 14 different areas including Cardinal Creek, Petrie Island, Avalon, Blackburn Hamlet, Chapel Hill South, Queenswood Heights and Convent Glen.

Each printable map has a colour-coded layout of the recreational trails, bike friendly trails and sidewalks in the area.

The Trails project has been several years in the making. It was first launched by Team Ottawa-Orléans in 2007 using a Trillium Foundation grant. It was recently completed by Enterprise Information Inc. in collaboration with the newly-formed Greater Orléans Economic Develop.m.ent Council.

Residents are being encouraged to take pictures along the trails and submit them to the Facebook app page.

(This story was made possible thanks to their generous support of our local business partners.)
