The system is designed to instill a sense of self-motivation and accomplishment in each child as they work their way through the curriculum.

After the school received a 6.8 in 2010, they reevaluated the program and decided to place an extra emphasis in the areas of reading, writing and arithmatic. They also harmonized their instruction from class to class. All this took place while the school settled into its new home in the former Queenswood Public School site on Duford Drive.

At La Source the day is divided into five periods, two of which are devoted to individual learning while the remaining three periods are done in a more traditional environment.

Public speaking is also an important component of school life at La Source. Each student must give three oral presentation a week -- one while reading a text, a poem and a story based on a theme -- and they must give a presentation either oral, or performing an instrument, in front of the entire school at least once a year.

Finally, parents are encouraged to spend time in the classroom working with their own child or one of the other students during the open classes.

(This story was made possible thanks to their generous support of our local business partners.)
